Yavuz Grocery Store

Story

“SAIT YAVUZ GROCERY STORE

Sait Yavuz was captured by the Russian army in the defense of Mount Kop and lived in captivity in Russia for two years during World War I. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, he was released and returned to his country.
When Sait returned to his village, he could not find his family. Because of the Armenian uprisings that began with the Russian invasion, his family left Bayburt for Sivas and Yozgat, the more inland parts of Anatolia. Unable to find his family in his village, Sait followed his family to Yozgat and found his family there.
The family returned to these lands after the end of the Russian occupation. In later years, Sait became the owner of the village grocery store as well as farming.”
