Story

“Russian Rifle
This rifle, which dates from the battle of Mount Kop during the First World War, was found in its
original form in a cave and donated to the museum’s inventory.
Mount Kop is a mountain within the borders of Bayburt Province with an altitude of 2425meters,
which connects the Eastern Anatolia region to the Black Sea.
During the First World War, Russian Armies crossed the Kop Mountain and occupied the provinces
of Bayburt and Erzincan in order to spread through Anatolia.
The kop war, which began in March 1916, lasted for four months, and the Russian Army was able
to hold on to this front for the whole duration. The blocking of the Russian Armies with the
defense of Mount Kop for a period of four months has saved the Ottoman-Turkish armies a
significant amount of time on other fronts in Anatolia.”
