Work Description
“Ehram (or ihram), the raw material of which is sheep’s wool, finds its shape and touches it as a work of art in the skillful hands of local young girls and women. Color is very important in ehram. In general, white teenage girls, purple-brown middle-aged women, purple-black ehram are the preferred ehrams of older women.
Ehram is prepared entirely from wool by touching it on the ehram loom. It is a local garment used by women in Bayburt to cover up. The history of the art of ehram weaving, which is an ancient Turkish tradition, dates back to ancient times.”

“EHRAM WEAVING LOOM
Ehram, the traditional women’s clothing of Erzurum and Bayburt region, is woven on these looms
with yarn produced from sheep’s wool and turned into the clothing that women wear daily. It was
also found practical that women did not have to change outfits during busy days of working and
social interactions – since ehram would cover the whole body and clothes worn underneath.
Although Ehram is no longer used today, the loom continues to be used for the production of
accessory products in a wide range of fields. Ehram loom is a symbol of manual labor, and
inspirational craftsmanship.”
